Butthole Surfers working on first new album in 16 years!
By Craig LeSieg
Last week at an Austin Music Commission meeting, longtime Butthole Surfers engineer/producer Stuart Sullivan, newly appointed to the City Councell’s music advisory board, was running down his résumé when he added he would be working on a new album with the Surfers. Days later Surfers guitarist/co-founder Paul Leary confirmed the news.
This will be the Surfers 9th studio LP their last being 2001’s Weirs Revolution. They played Houston’s Day for Night Festival last December, and in 2017 had a booking at the Safe as Milk Festival in the UK but it was canceled due to low ticket sales.
Having grown up punk in south Texas during the late 80’s early 90’s Butthole Surfers were local legends. I’m really excited to hear about the new album and can’t wait to hear some tour dates! Keep an eye out for more news as I will be following this one closely.
